The Los Angeles Rams did not need a subtle response after getting handled in their opener. They needed something loud enough to reset the conversation.
Matthew Stafford and Davante Adams delivered it on Monday night.
Stafford threw four touchdown passes, Adams caught eight passes for 195 yards and two scores, and the Rams rolled past the New York Giants 28–6 in Inglewood. The result moved Los Angeles to 1–1 after a 27–7 opening loss to San Francisco in Australia.
Reuters reported that Stafford finished 22 of 31 for 327 yards with one interception.
Stafford kept climbing the all-time list
The four-touchdown night was Stafford’s 22nd career game with at least four passing scores. It also pushed him to 427 career touchdown passes, moving him into sixth place in NFL history and past Philip Rivers.
Those numbers matter because Stafford’s career can sometimes disappear inside the weekly churn of quarterback debates. He is no longer the young arm trying to drag Detroit into relevance or the veteran acquisition proving he could win a Super Bowl. He is now stacking numbers that place him firmly in the historical conversation.
Davante Adams looked like a matchup problem all night
Adams was the part New York never solved. Stafford found him for a 31-yard touchdown late in the first quarter and again for an 11-yard score in the third. By the end of the night, Adams had 195 receiving yards — just 11 shy of his career high.
His two touchdowns also lifted him to 119 career receiving scores, putting him two behind Larry Fitzgerald on the all-time list.
And this came with Puka Nacua unavailable because of a hip injury. Instead of the passing game shrinking, Stafford leaned harder into one of the most accomplished route-runners of his generation.
The Rams made the game simple
Kyren Williams and Terrance Ferguson caught the other two touchdown passes. The defense kept the Giants out of the end zone entirely. New York managed only two field goals and lost quarterback Jaxson Dart to a knee injury on its opening possession.
That injury changed the game, but it does not explain the ease with which the Rams offense created explosive plays or the control Stafford displayed after the first-week disappointment.
One win does not erase the opener — but it changes the temperature
September NFL narratives are notoriously unstable. A team can look broken one week and dangerous seven days later. That is exactly why this performance matters: not because the Rams suddenly proved everything, but because they demonstrated how high the ceiling can be when Stafford and Adams are synchronized.
The opener raised questions. Monday night supplied an answer loud enough for the rest of the league to hear.
