Cardi B spent years hearing the same question: when was the second album coming?

Now she appears determined not to let the third one become the same kind of waiting game.

During a backstage conversation with The Breakfast Club at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, Cardi said she plans to shift her attention toward her next album after her birthday in November. Complex reported that she already has two songs she likes and is aiming at 2027 for the project.

Her message was unusually direct: “I’m not even playing around.”

The confidence may matter more than the timetable

Artists announce tentative plans all the time, so the interesting part is not simply that Cardi has mentioned another album. It is the way she talked about it.

She described having a new level of confidence while also acknowledging that there is still a long way to go. That combination—confidence without pretending the project is finished—sounds very different from an artist trying to calm impatient fans with a vague promise.

Cardi’s first album, Invasion of Privacy, became one of the defining rap debuts of its era. The gap before Am I the Drama? turned every delay, single and studio update into a larger story about pressure. Once the wait becomes part of an artist’s public identity, the next project carries an extra burden: prove that the previous delay was an exception rather than the new normal.

Album three can change the conversation

A quicker third album would do more than satisfy fans. It could reset the way Cardi’s catalog is discussed.

Two albums can make every comparison feel enormous. Three albums begin to establish a real body of work. That gives an artist more room to experiment, miss, recover and evolve without every song being treated like a referendum on an entire career.

There is also a practical advantage to keeping momentum. Cardi remains a constant presence in entertainment and internet culture even when she is not releasing a full project, but music is still the foundation of the brand. A shorter gap keeps the center of gravity where it started.

The pressure will be different this time

The challenge is that saying the next album is already moving creates a new clock.

Fans who spent years waiting for album two will remember the 2027 target. Every new single will be evaluated as a possible album track. Every studio clip becomes evidence. Every delay becomes a headline.

But Cardi appears comfortable inviting that pressure right now. She says she has two records she believes in, a plan to focus after her birthday and a renewed sense of confidence.

That does not guarantee a 2027 album. It does mean the story has changed. Instead of asking whether Cardi B can finally finish album two, fans can start asking what she wants album three to sound like.

For an artist who spent so long being defined by the wait, that alone feels like forward motion.
