Pokémon, K-Pop Demon Hunters and Jordans Lead a Wild Sneaker Week

Some sneaker weeks are built around one obvious release. This is not one of them.

The September 21–26 calendar is a collision of fandom, retro basketball, signature shoes, fashion collaborations and licensed pop culture. Sneaker News’ weekly release breakdown includes everything from adidas’ 30th-anniversary Pokémon collection to K-Pop Demon Hunters x Vans, the Air Jordan 5 “Sunset,” Bad Bunny adidas pairs and the Nike Kobe 3 “Orca.”

Pokémon and K-pop start the week

The K-Pop Demon Hunters x Vans rollout continues first, extending one of those collaborations that makes more sense when you view sneakers as fandom merchandise rather than simply footwear.

Then adidas brings out a larger Pokémon collection tied to the franchise’s 30th anniversary. That is where the business story becomes interesting. Sneaker companies no longer need every collaboration to originate inside sneaker culture. A massive entertainment property can bring its own collector base, its own characters and its own reasons for buying.

The same logic applies across anime, gaming, movies and music. The shoe is only one piece of the product.

Jordan and basketball still anchor the calendar

For buyers who want something closer to traditional sneaker-head territory, the Air Jordan 5 “Sunset” returns on September 25. The week closes with the Air Jordan 1 Low OG “Last Dance At The Garden” and the unusual Air Jordan 40-14.

Performance basketball is busy too. Nike has GT Future colorways, Ja Morant’s Ja 4 “Deep Water,” and the Kobe 3 “Orca.” PUMA introduces a major MB.06 launch for LaMelo Ball, while Converse continues building around Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s SHAI 001.

Bad Bunny remains a category of his own

Bad Bunny’s adidas partnership returns September 26 with paired BadBo 1.1 releases in “Night Navy” and “Soft Pink.” At this point, the collaboration has enough history that new pairs do not need to explain why a musician belongs in the sneaker conversation.

That relationship is a useful example of how footwear partnerships evolve. The first release needs novelty. Later releases need identity. The goal is to make the artist-product connection feel like a line rather than a stunt.

The weirdness is the point

The rest of the schedule includes Vans x Harris Tweed, a Sneaker Politics Timberland, Billionaire Boys Club x Reebok Club C, New Balance 990v4 colorways and a Crocs Horror Pack built around Jigsaw and Michael Myers.

That sounds chaotic because modern sneaker culture is chaotic. The market is no longer one audience chasing the same Saturday retro. It is dozens of overlapping communities: performance players, nostalgia buyers, fashion collectors, fandoms, resellers and people who simply want a pair connected to something they already love.

This week may not have one universal “must-have.” It has something more revealing: a release calendar that shows how broad the sneaker business has become.
